Retraction Watch-related: diff between client and web, and also, locality of the flag

Hiya,
When I view this library item, a retracted journal article, I don't see the same warnings about its 'retractedness' as I do on my desktop:
https://www.zotero.org/groups/6513130/wiki_recite/items/VXQ5YZAZ/library

Is this a bug or due to the privacy-preserving way you all have implemented Retraction Watch? (https://www.zotero.org/blog/retracted-item-notifications/, which means maybe the flag is only kept locally). If it's a bug, what is the field that I might be able to check for retracted status when I ping the API?

Thanks!

Neither. Retracted item notifications just aren't currently available in the web library:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/web_vs_desktop

We can look into supporting this in the web library, but we haven't gotten many requests for it (and part of the feature includes notifications in the word processor plugins when you go to cite a retracted item).

This data isn't available via the Zotero API, but you can of course query Crossref (new home of RW) with an item's DOI.
  • Got it, thanks. I am trying to think through a use case for Zotero, and thought it might save us the number of times Crossref is pinged on our end. Will continue to mull.
