Unable to retrieve metadata for selected items in Zotero 9.0.1 (Windows)
Hi,
I'm running into an issue with metadata retrieval in Zotero, and I haven't been able to find a solution, so I'm hoping for some guidance. I'm a first-time Zotero user, currently using version 9.01 (64-bit) of Zotero Desktop on a Windows 11 Enterprise system.
I'm working on a literature review, so I have imported references from multiple databases into Zotero via .ris (Scopus and WoS) and .nbib (PubMed) files, and via Zotero Connector in Google Chrome (Google Scholar). Each database import is currently in its own collection in Zotero. Some records are missing abstracts and/or other metadata, specifically the Google Scholar and Scopus imports. I therefore wanted to use the "retrieve metadata for selected items" feature to complete these records. However, I can't find this feature in any of the places online sources tell me it should be.
I have tried selecting one or multiple items in the middle pane and right-clicking, but there are no options in the menu to retrieve metadata or retrieve abstracts. I've also tried using Tools in the top menu, but again, there is no option to retrieve metadata or abstracts. I've tried this for multiple collections, but to no avail. Restarting Zotero and my computer also doesn't solve anything. Everything else in Zotero seems to work exactly like it should.
I've tried looking for solutions online, but I can't seem to find any up-to-date documentation for Zotero versions above version 7, and there is also no mention (that I saw) that this feature has been retired.
Is this a known issue in Zotero 9.x on Windows, or is there a change in how metadata retrieval is supposed to work that I am missing?
If this behaviour is expected, what is the correct workflow for enriching metadata and retrieving abstracts in Zotero 9?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Eva

Upgrade Storage
To enrich metadata, have a look at the Linter for Zotero plugin. Zotero has said a feature like that is planned in the main software, but no idea when that will land -- could well be quite some time from now.
