Add additional "Item Types"

Occasionally we need to catalog entire issues of journals or magazines, or complete annual volumes of journals, as item types (not individual articles)

Would it be possible to add options such as 'Newspaper Issue' or ‘Magazine’ to the item type dropdown menu? Or at least an "Other" option? Pleeeeeaaaase!

You can set the new item type "periodical" via the extra field:

type: periodical

Thank you for your suggestion. Do you mean typing 'type: periodical' into the 'extra' field? We use this field for other infomormation, so this won't work for us....

Yes. That will tell Zotero/CSL/citeproc that it's a different item type and hence will treat it differently when generating citations.
