Zotero PDF reader does not recognize Zotero hyperlinks?

Hello,

My colleagues and I use a group library to share documentation.

I am writing new documentation that I will then share in the group library as a PDF.

If possible, I would like to insert hyperlinks pointing to other Zotero items and annotations within the same library, into the new PDF.

(e.g., "Even though Manual X says to hold the temperature at 200 C for 30 min here [linked to Annotation X], Article Y suggests that it should be held at 200 C for at least 60 min here [linked to Annotation Y]. This suggestion was followed in Protocol Z [linked to Item Z]...")

However, it seems that the Zotero PDF reader does not recognize Zotero links (e.g., zotero://open-pdf/...). The Zotero links behaved exactly like regular text when I opened a PDF (made from a Word document) in the Zotero PDF reader.

I made a file containing both zotero:// links and "normal" https:// links, and tried the links when the file was opened in different programs. My results are in the image below.

Is there anything on my end that I can change to make Zotero links usable in the Zotero PDF reader?

If not, is this a functionality that I could request in future releases?

Thank you!
  • Good point. I think we'd need to make this more universal to support additional URL schemes.
  • Okay, I will work around it for now. I hope support for additional URL schemes, particularly zotero://, can be added in the future.

    Thanks for the reply!
