Zotero Connector breaks ChatGPT functionality on macOS (even when site access is disabled)
Hi everyone,
I’ve encountered a persistent issue with Zotero Connector interfering with ChatGPT, and I’d like to report it here to see if others have experienced the same problem.
Issue description
Whenever Zotero Connector is enabled in my browser on macOS, ChatGPT becomes unusable. Specifically:
Deep search fails with runtime errors
Input or responses may not work properly
The page behaves abnormally overall
Key observation
Even if I explicitly disable Zotero Connector access to chat.openai.com in browser settings, the issue still occurs.
The only way to restore normal functionality is to completely disable the Zotero Connector extension.
Environment
Device: MacBook (Apple Silicon)
OS: macOS (latest version)
Browser: Safari / Chrome (issue occurs on both)
Zotero Connector: latest version
ChatGPT: web version
What I’ve tried
Reinstalling Zotero Connector
Clearing browser cache
Disabling site access permissions for ChatGPT
None of these resolved the issue.
Expected behavior
If site access is disabled for ChatGPT, Zotero Connector should not interfere with the page at all.
Actual behavior
The extension still seems to inject scripts or otherwise affect the page, even without explicit permission.
Question
Is this a known compatibility issue?
Is there any way to prevent Zotero Connector from affecting specific websites like ChatGPT without fully disabling it?
Thanks in advance for any help!
