First author missing and last author duplicated when using Firefox Connector

Hi everyone,

I tried to import a preprint into my Zotero libary using the Firefox Connector but when I looked at the authors of the entry, the first author was missing and the last author appeared twice (in the first and last position). In this case, the preprint could not be cited using the (correct) first author's name. However, when I added the same preprint manually using the DOI, everything looked as expected. Can someone please help me to figure out why this problem occurs when using the Firefox Connector? Thanks!

  • It's an issue with the metadata displayed by preprints.org -- Zotero is importing exactly what they display

It'd be worthwhile reporting this to them (among other things, this will also have google scholar scrape incorrect information). Is this the case across the site or just for this individual preprint?
  • Thanks! We reported this to them first but they replied that they carefully checked the metadata and that it wasn't their fault. We will try again.

I tested five others just now and saw the same behaviour. So seems to be a general problem.
  • We can work around this on the Zotero end -- they do have correct metadata elsewhere -- but the metadata in the site header (Google Highwire meta tags would be what it's commonly referred to in technical terms) is definitely wrong and they should fix.
