Getting stuck on a citation

Hello folks. I have never used this before and am praying that you will help. It's a Saturday! I am fairly new to Zotero and am pretty much self taught. I am on a Word document and am adding my references. I have got to number 18 of about 70 and for some reason Zotero keeps adding (17) to whatever i want to put in next. So for example, (17) is currently Bloggs et al (2026) and I want to add (18) (Stuck et al, 2025). Instead, Zotero adds another (17) and in the Reference section changes Bloggs et al (2026) to Stuck et al (2025). I have closed both Zotero and the Word document down, but that has made no difference. I have deleted and readded Stuck et al. (2025) as a new reference to the Zotero database, but still the same problem. Trying not to lose my mind! Thanks in advance.

    That would happen if you’re clicking Add/Edit Citation within the Bloggs et al. citation (or what Word thinks is part of the citation), and it would show Bloggs et al. in the citation dialog when you do so instead of showing an empty citation dialog. Make sure you’re clicking outside of it.
