Zotero PDF reader doesn't display Umlaut

I've noticed a strange phenomenon today. In one specific PDF the reader doesn't display German umlauts (ä, ü, ö). They are visible when opening the same PDF in Firefox or Okular. The problem is not visible in other PDFs. Copying text from the reader includes the Umlauts, so it seems to be a problem with the display.
