Missing snapshots

I've found that all zotero snapshots attached prior to a certain date are now missing.
When I click on "view snapshot," I receive a message saying the snapshot could not be found.

Here's a debug ID: D1177362122

I am using windows live sync (on a Windows 7 system) to sync folders on my computer, but not to sync my zotero profile or anything like that. Just syncing the PDFs in a folder in my documents, to which Zotero has links. All of those links are totally fine, as are all snapshots made after the given date (which is in October of 2009).

I wonder if it is possible to figure out the folder name that zotero is checking in for all of these snapshots? I could probably find those folders and restore the snapshots from an old system backup. Or perhaps they are in my "Orphans" -- which seem not to have been purged in ages....

I guess it's possible this happened when I changed computers? I'm pretty sure I was careful to transfer over everything as per zotero's instructions...

Thanks for any help,
Jon
  • As a follow up, I've done some spot-checking of folder names where missing attachments are meant to be stored (by reading the debug output). I've found that, indeed, before I switched computers I'd made a backup of my zotero folder, and do have those folders available. I think it's probably not a good idea to just mass copy and past all of those folders into my current zotero folder in my firefox profile (might overwrite some newer material). So, I wonder if it is possible to somehow automate the process of having zotero restore the snapshots from that backup location without messing up other data. I'm also trying to figure out how to get a list of all of those folder names in one place, without going through and trying to open each individual snapshot in zotero and then reading them from the debug output.

    Thanks again.
  • In many (though not all) file managers, you'd be able to select all storage sub-folders from the backup & drag those into th zotero storage directory. If the folder name already existed, you'd be prompted to replace it & could say "no." This should not over-write new material, but may add attachments to references that you have since deleted.

You can scan for missing attachments with a user-submitted script
    http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/9568/
And you could use the output of that script to selectively copy folders over.
  • That script is particularly useful--helped me clear up a lot of bad links. Thanks!
