Cant log onto zotero through my mac

This is the message I get when I try to login...
The Zotero database cannot be opened.

Make sure you have read and write permissions for all files in the Zotero data directory and that security software isn’t preventing Zotero from accessing that directory.

Data Directory: /Users/tooki/Zotero
And I tried the following % sudo chown -R `whoami` ~/Zotero in my terminal and it did not do anything, what can I do with my message directory or terminal to get it to work.

What happened before you started getting this message? Did you transfer this data from another computer?

What's the output of ls -la ~/Zotero?
  • I did transfer like my data and stuff from a prior computer so I think thats the issue
  • zsh: no matches found: /Users/tooki/Zotero? This is the result

No, don't include the ? in the command.

OK, so you need to fix the permissions on that folder and all files within it so they’re owned by your user account. You can do this from File → Get Info in Finder.
  • It wont let me click on "show in finder"
  • So then I go through the whole process and it just quits on itself
  • This has nothing to do with Show in Finder or Zotero itself. You just need to correct the permissions on the files you copied.
  • And do I do that through finder?
  • Application (Universal)
397,320,562 bytes (398.6 MB on disk)
    /Users/tooki/Downloads/Zotero-8.0.1.dmg
    Zotero 8.0.1, © 2006-2018 Contributors
This is what it shows under general where do I go to correct the permissions
  • When I go to permissions to change everyone, staff and even me to Read and Write it says I dont have permission. Even when I unlock it with the password for my account
  • The Zotero database cannot be opened.

Like it wont let me change this in the first place

This is about the Zotero data directory — the folder you yourself copied from the other computer. It doesn't have anything to do with the Zotero app itself or the .dmg in your downloads folder.

This is just a basic operation in Finder, but I'm afraid we can't provide general OS usage guidance here. Plenty of resources for that if you need more help.
  • Where would I be able to find that guidance
  • Search "Change permissions for files, folders, or disks on Mac"
