Quick cite / bibliography from pdf tab?

Is there a way to create a reference or link to a particular item from the pdf viewer page, not from the library pane?

In the library pane, I would either drag'n'drop an item from the list, or right click to "create a bibliography" that is put in the clipboard so I can paste it somewhere else. (These two actions create different links/references, to be used in different contexts - I use both.)

It would be very useful to me to be able to do this from the pdf viewer: my usual workflow is that I am reading a paper in zotero, and discover I would like to share (via a bibliography reference) with someone else, or insert a link to the file (drag'n'drop) into my notes. Currently this requires going back to the library pane, searching for the file (if it's not somewhere in the last ten that I've saved, and it is often not - my library is a big dump), and then doing the actions. This means that I'm effectively re-finding an item that I already have in front of me in the pdf viewer, which is a bit frustrating.
I'm hoping I'm just missing some existing functionality and someone can help me out here.
  • Yeah, you're indeed just missing it: If you have a quick copy citation style set up (which it sounds like you do if drag & drop works in the main interface) you can get a citation or bibliography either from the Edit menu or using the keyboard shortcuts specified there (Ctrl+Shift+C, Ctrl+Shift+A on Windows, e.g.) when looking at a file
  • Excellent, thank you!
That gives the quick-copy behavior (which with my settings gives me a markdown uri - a link to the local pdf, which is what I use in my own notes).
Is there any way to get a reference citation ('create bibliography' - 'copy to clipboard') behaviour?
