Unable to save PDF to Zotero on iPad (Safari/Chrome/Edge) – “Could not find file to upload”
Hello,
I am experiencing a problem when trying to import a PDF into Zotero on my iPad.
Here is what I am doing:
1. I open a journal article PDF in Safari, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge on my iPad.
2. I tap the Share button.
3. I select “Save to Zotero”.
4. The import fails with the message: “An unknown error occurred”or“Could not find file to upload.”
As shown in the attached screenshot, the file appears in the Zotero save dialog, but the upload fails.
Because of this, the only workaround I have found is:
• First downloading the PDF to my iPad,
• Then opening Zotero and importing the file manually.
However, even when I go to the Files app, locate the downloaded PDF, and use the Share button to send it to Zotero, I sometimes encounter the same error.
Am I describing the issue clearly?
Is this a known limitation of the iOS version of Zotero, or is there something I am doing incorrectly?
For reference:
• Device: iPad (latest iPadOS)
• Zotero version: 2.0.4
• The PDF is opened via a university WebVPN (CNKI PDF link).
Thank you very much for your help.

Upgrade Storage
Settings > Debug Output Logging > Start Logging
then go share a PDF file to Zotero that you know it fails,
go back to the Zotero app and stop the logging and share the Debug ID here.
