Zotero not updating reference order upon refresh

Hi all,

I have noticed that my Zotero citations don't get updated on Mac. The order of reference appeared correct in text, but the citation list doesn't update its number. Refreshing doesn't seem to fix it either. I haven't edited the references on the document.

I have sent it to someone else for comments, upon receiving document back it still linked to Zotero. There were tracked changes and comments, could this be the reason? Photo below to show how it looks.

Any help with troubleshooting would be appreciated!

    You can try deleting the bibliography completely and reinserting it with Add/Edit Bibliography. It may have gotten flattened during the commenting.

    That actually did the trick! thank you so much for your help. What does flattened mean btw?
