Zotero + Attanger + Better BibTex + Obsidian Workflow now disrupted with Zotero 8
Hello —
Has anyone successfully navigated the updated Zotero 8 + Better BibTeX + Attanger system workflow?
I upgraded to Zotero 8 and ran a test import. But the system is now broken and I don't know where the break is happening.
I store all PDFs in my Obsidian vault. First I use the Zotero connector on my web browser, then I create a PDF of the journal or article, and then download a pdf into my downloads file. I then would double check the citation, re-pin in Better Bibtex if needed to create the correct Citation Key and then Attanger to move the PDF to my Obsidian vault with a link it Zotero. This has been working so well.
Unfortunately in Zotero 8 - the filename on export is no longer using the Better BibTeX citation key in Obsidian and I can no longer create a literature note (which used the Better BibTex created citation key within Obsidian with the new pdf.
I am not fluent in coding language, I am a writer who does a lot of research.
When I use Attanger to link the pdf from my downloads folder to Obsidian - the file name in my obsidian vault now looks like this - even though I have {author}}_{{title}}_{{year}}:
_2012_Shifting the Power Dynamic.pdf
but it used to be use the better bibtext created citation:
kramer_shifting_2012.pdf
I spent a lot of time trying to fix this - with by working with creating different names in Zotero but its a new system I don’t understand - for instance even though in the Zotero.
The Better BibTeX citekey generation is still working correctly (zotero.clean → kramer_shifting_2012) but it is no longer attached to the file itself when I export.
The Citation Key field appears correctly in Zotero’s item information pane to the right of the article.
I have tried adjusting Zotero → Settings → File Renaming * But the filename used when linking into Obsidian still follows the title/year pattern.
Also - I think it's not just the name of the file itself but the way Better BibTex pinned it that made it work with Obsidian and Literature notes (linking pdfs with notes in Obsidian.
Question: Is there a Zotero 8 or Attanger setting that will force attachment filenames to use the Better BibTeX citekey and also allow for seamless literature note to be created within Obsidian, as in earlier workflows?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
