Slow response in 20-30 page Word document

Hi there,

I've found that Word has slowed down massively in the past month or so while using Zotero. I'm working on two documents of 20-30 pages/100 footnotes that are both slowing down, particularly when I cut and paste text with a footnote. I have auto-update for Zotero references turned off (in fact I even have the Zotero programme closed all together), as well as Autosave, etc., turned off for Word.

I've found that if I split the document into small sections (10 pages/40 footnotes), those documents work OK, so it seems to be an additive problem with all the footnotes. It seems like it's maybe Word's problem rather than Zotero's, since I've been working without Zotero running. But is this is a specific problem of the kind of data that's being created in the footnote field? Is there a way of managing this so it doesn't slow down Word so badly?

Thanks.
  • Is that Word for Mac or Windows? On Mac, slowness in large docs is known, though we're usually looking at >100 pages, not article-length manuscripts, for which that matters.

But if Zotero is turned off and this still happens -- how sure are you this is actually Zotero related and not just Word struggling with the many footnotes? Zotero doesn't interact with your document when it's not running.
