Zotero 8 and Word on macOS

Not sure when this started, but recently. I updated Word today and also Zotero. Not sure if this was happening before I updated Word. The in-text citations look live, but when I click on them, I can't Add/Edit Citation and can't Update or Toggle Field. Usually when I highlight a citation, it's in grey, not like the usual text. These are highlighting like normal text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my dissertation.

The dashed underlining would be from https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/citations_underlined

But if they're not fields, you did something to flatten the document:

Thanks. I didn't consciously do any of those things in the flattened link you shared. Furthermore, not all my links are not being recognized.
Anyway, I went back in version history and it seems to be ok now. Thank you for your help.
