Deleting citations and updating list/numbering

Hi, I am having issues with Zotero where when I add a citation, it will automatically update the numbering order. But when I delete a citation from a paragraph, the reference list doesn't update nor the numbering as well. So, the reference will still show in the list AND the proceeding reference numbering in the text is not updated. How should I fix/approach this?

Are you clicking Refresh after deleting the citation?

yes but it didn't translate. Even if it's no longer mentioned in the text/paragraph, it still shows in the reference list. and the numbering still doesn't update
