Note Annotations on EPUBs since Zotero 8 update

Since the new update I seem to be unable to attach standalone "sticker" note annotations on my EPUBs in the Zotero reader. I can only highlight text, which then also creates the ability to stick a note on the highlighted section.

This is also the case for EPUB files which I was using this function on before the update. Is this intended? Problem is I often want to "stick" a note without highlighting text.
