Zotero 8 Dark Mode print issues

I just got Zotero 8 a couple days ago and it works fine. I'm using the dark mode and in this setting the pdf is correctly dark with white text.
However, I just printed a paper and it came out black with white text. Switching to light mode the document prints correctly.
Could we go back to the behaviour of Zotero 7 or have a setting to always print the original document rather than the one rendered by Zotero?
  • It is absolutely asinine that ANY program thinks that a document should be printed in dark mode. Display mode and print mode should be completely divorced.

If this is happening, it's obviously a bug.

  • I can confirm the issue reported by @dcrucio. When printing pages from the PDF reader while a dark or custom reader theme is active, the printed output includes the dark background instead of the original document appearance.

I have reproduced this on both:
    - Zotero 8.0.4
    - Zotero 9.0-beta.8+b80bcea18r

Operating system: macOS Tahoe 26.3.1 (build 25D2128)

    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Open a PDF in the Zotero reader.
    2. Set the reader appearance to any dark or any other theme (via the appearance popup).
    3. Print the document.
    4. The printed output shows the themed dark background and altered text colors instead of the original PDF content.

Expected behaviour: Printing should always output the original PDF rendering, regardless of the reader theme currently applied. The theme is a display-only preference and should not affect print output.

As @dstillman confirmed, this is a bug. I am adding my report to help document the affected versions and platforms.
