Zotero 8 - Annotating with a Stylus/Pen (MS Surface - W11)

Dear community and dev-team,

First of all, Zotero is a great piece of software and an amazing app! I really enjoy using the app for my academic job. Thanks for your hard work!

One thing I was hoping for with the release of Zotero 8 was an improved stylus/pen support on my Surface Pro 6 and the Surface pen.

It still seems that the integrated PDF reader has a very slow sampling rate (latest W11). When writing really slowly, I can do some kind of handwritten annotation. However, when writing at normal speed, the letters in the words just look like interpolated dots. Also, sometimes the lines just appear when releasing the pen from the screen. So you can't see what you write or draw until you are finished. Also, there is a large lag between the stroke and the pen movement. Overall, writing on the Surface Pro 6 feels like a 10-year-old touchscreen with a capacitive pen. In apps like PDF Ink or RNote, the writing is as expected. So I don't think that my hardware/setup has any problems.

I used Zotero on an iPad, and the experience with the Apple pen was so much better. It really felt mature. On my Android phone (S20 FE Android 13), drawing with my finger is also extremely fluid. Maybe there's a way to use the iOS/Android code and port it to Windows or Linux. Or is it just a bug in the W11 version of Zotero?

Best,
Jonathan
