Standalone Installation
While I just discovered Zotero and have begun using it, I really like the idea and I especially like the NeoOffice Support. However, after using it for a few weeks, I have come to the conclusion:
I would prefer to have the Zotero Program exist as a stand-alone installation with connections to FireFox via a plug-in. In other words, more similar to how EndNote works now. Zotero is too closely tied to Firefox (and thus to a single user profile) to be of much use in my own work (Clinical/Basic Sciences Researcher). I want to be able to dynamically share my library with individuals on the same computer (rather than monkey with a server side solution). EndNote with the portable "Libraries" does this in an exemplary way.

SQLite is single access, so this will not work with fast users switching if multiple profiles have Firefox open at once.
But it will be fine if users close firefox or if fast user switching is disabled so that only one copy of firefox is open at once.
(You can, alternatively, use Portable Firefox, or make all copies of the non-portable firefox share the same profile. There might be privacy concerns in doing this, though.)
