Suggestion: hide the tag list popup in the Zotero Connector save popup

With Zotero 8 we can autocomplete tags in the Zotero Connector save popup. This is great! But I would like to suggest a small change: hide the tag list popup (maybe after a timeout) when the tag input box is empty.

The reasons for the change:
* the snapshot saving of Zotero Connector is kind of not very stable - sometimes the snapshot cannot be saved successfully (status always being grey) , sometimes the snapshot doesn't show up at all.
* I need to monitor the status of snapshot saving before closing the connector popup.
* But the tag list popup is always there once the tag input box is used - covering the item title and snapshot status.

So is it possible to turn off the tag list when the tag input box is empty? If it is there to remind the user autocomplete is available, maybe we can turn it off after a small timeout (e.g. 1 second)?
  • There seems to be a lot of confusion here.

Generally, the page saving progress dialog will remain open until the save and all attachments finish successfully, or fail, after which the dialog hides. If you press on the Zotero extension button again, the dialog will reapear, allowing you to inspect how the last save went.

If you want to prevent the dialog from auto-closing, expanding it by clicking the arrow button will prevent it from-autohiding.

Finally, the tag autocomplete list only shows when the field is active (by tabbing into it, or putting the cursor in it). If this is not what you're seeing, we would like to see a screenshot and a Report ID.
  • Thanks for the reply.

Yes, as you said, the tag autocomplete list only shows when the field is active (by tabbing into it, or putting the cursor in it).

    What I'm experiencing is:

    > But the tag list popup is always there once the tag input box is used - covering the item title and snapshot status.

I mean, when the tag input field is active, the tag autocomplete list is always shown, covering the item title and snapshot status (so I cannot see the two important UI elements). This is the case each time after tags are entered. I think a smoother experience could be:

    1) click the tag input field to activate it
    2) input a tag name, press ENTER
    3) the tag name appears in the tag list of the item; the tag input field becomes empty; tag autocomplete list popup remains visible (or doesn't show the autocomplete list popup at all until user input is present)
    4) repeat step 2) and 3) until all tags are entered
    5) the tag autocomplete list popup disappears after a short timeout of no user input (or doesn't show the autocomplete list popup at all since there is no user input); item title and snapshot status are revealed to the user;
    6) press ENTER; the Connector save popup disappears.
  • We might consider this if more people are interested in it. For now my suggestion is to press Tab after you've finished entering tags.
