Zotero extension not working after Edge update

edited today at 4:52am
I can no longer add any new article in my repository after the update. I've tried installing and reinstalling, both the desktop app and the edge extension. Still nothing is working. Storage is also not an issue since I still half of the storage available. Does anyone have a fix for this?

[Edit: This appears to be due to an Edge update. We don't need further reports at the moment. See below for updates.]

What update are you referring to? (There haven't been any recent Zotero Connector updates, and the last Edge update was a week ago.) In what way isn't it working?

Can you provide an example URL and a Debug ID for reloading the page and trying to save?

We were just able to reproduce this. We're investigating.

We know a lot of people are trying to post to this thread, but we don't need any further reports at the moment. We're looking into this and will share an update as soon as we have one. In the meantime, as far as we know other browsers are unaffected, so you can use another browser for now. Sorry for the inconvenience.

It looks like this is due to an Edge update, not anything that changed our end. We can reproduce just by applying the latest Edge update with Zotero closed. So it's not related to Zotero 8 in any way — just confusing timing. I'm guessing they started pushing out the January 16 update more broadly today.

We'll post again when we have more info.
  • OK, we've submitted Zotero Connector 5.0.194 for Edge with a fix for this. It will be available as soon as Microsoft approves it, hopefully later today.

This was indeed caused by a change in Edge. It looks like the change in question was reverted by the upstream Chromium project due to breakage it was causing in extensions, but Microsoft doesn't seem to have reverted it yet in Edge 144.

Zotero Connector 5.0.194 is out now with the fix. You'll receive the update soon, or you can update now from the Edge extensions pane.

@myx217: Make sure you have 5.0.194 and reload any existing tabs where you're trying to use it. This problem is definitely fixed.
  • Thank you so much to the whole Zotero Team, especially dstillman. I can confirm it works perfectly now. Together with the new and improved look of Zotero 8, it makes academic research much more fun. Endless appreciation for you guys.
  • The problem has indeed been solved. I just tested it after updating Zoteto Connector on Microsoft Edge and it worked. Thank you so much!
