Request: User-controlled setting for in-text citation → reference hyperlinks

Hello Zotero team,

I would like to request a feature related to hyperlinks in Zotero citations when using the Microsoft Word plugin.

In recent Zotero versions (e.g., Zotero 7), hyperlinks from in-text citations to the reference list are handled automatically, but there is no visible or user-controllable option to enable, disable, or troubleshoot this behavior. As a result, when hyperlinks do not work (due to Word settings, document corruption, or plugin issues), users have no clear way to diagnose or control the feature.

Feature request:
Please consider adding an explicit and visible option in Document Preferences (or Zotero settings) to:

Enable or disable hyperlinks for in-text citations

Clearly indicate whether citation-to-bibliography linking is active

Optionally re-generate or repair citation hyperlinks in existing documents

This would be especially helpful for:

Thesis and dissertation writing

Users submitting to journals with specific hyperlink requirements

Troubleshooting cases where Ctrl/Cmd + Click does not navigate to references

Thank you for your continued work on Zotero. It is an essential tool for researchers, and this small addition would significantly improve usability and transparency.

Best regards,
