References not appearing

While it was working fine last week (my first time using it), suddenly in a new document today, when I try to add a citation using the button in the Word ribbon, the number is added to the text but the reference is not added below in my list of references. What do I need to do to fix this?

You may have accidentally flattened the bibliography (and likely other previous citations). Try deleting the bibliography and reinsert it.
