New England Journal of Medicine style incorrect

I believe the style for NEJM is incorrect. Below is an exported sample bibliography using zotero.

Problems:
1 - There is no period after the journal name
2 - The month is not included in the date
3 - The issue is not included, just the volume and pages

It should be:

JournalYear;volume: pages.

I may correct this eventually, but I haven't read about how, and cannot at present. I'm posting so folks know, and certainly wouldn't complain if someone makes the correction before I get back to it.

Nice program. Even with the errors it is a time saver, and a a nice organizer.

Be well all,

  • 1. Should be fixed - I'll try to get to that.
2 and 3 are more problematic - the “Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals,” which NEJM says it follows do use month and issue number.

It's pretty clear the NEJM doesn't want that - and there are some other styles, so it might be worth forking a Vancouver/NLM style without month and issue and linking it to NEJM (and any other journal with that requirement).

I think I found two other problem with the NEJM style. In the zotero-style it puts the reference in parentheses, while in NEJM the reference is in superscript. The other problem is, that if there are more than six authors, the reference should only include the first three + et al. Zotero includes the first six and then adds et al.
Both problems can be fixed by manual editing when finished with writing, but a fix for the style would be perfect!
    Take care,

  • Hi,

I recently changed from endnote to Zotero and find it great. I am having the same problem as kappf though; specifically that the 2 faults in the New England style, mentioned above, remain. The references are still in parentheses in the text, rather than in superscript, and that 6 authors are listed followed by et al, rather than 3. I'm writing a large paper, with over 200 refs, so to edit this manually would take an age. Is it possible to fix these 2 issues? Many thanks, Rob
  • OK, sorry it took so long, an NEJM style is now here

on the new repository (download using right-click --> save link as... install by dragging the downloaded fiel to any open FF window)

What happened to the NEJM style. It still has the volume (issue) style, which NEJM explicitly does not want. Did someone revert it? The github link above is dead.
  • sorry, which issues? It's superscripted and lists only 3 authors before et al. (The style was renamed, hence the broken link, but you don't need to manually download it. The version on zotero.org/styles is up to date.
  • Apologies, I updated my post to specify the problem - it's having the "(issue)" listed. NEJM wants Journal year; volume:pages.

    e.g.: J Gen Intern Med 2007;22:1298-304.

Not: J Gen Intern Med 2007;22(3):1298-304.
