The problem of formula input in notes

It is correct to enter such a paragraph formula in zotero's notes:

However, when enter a formula in paragraph text, between $$ will not be recognized as a formula. How can I operate it? Because the same method is recognized as the correct formula in other markdown software.

  • The current Math Bolck in the notes are only for independent paragraph formulas. We hope to add a faster function for inputting formulas within paragraphs.
  • Your example works for me in Zotero 7.0.30 and 8.0-beta.23.

I've identified the issue. When entering formulas within text paragraphs, you need to press Enter after inputting the formula for it to convert properly. However, this creates another problem - if you continue typing text after the formula, you still need to press Backspace to return to the previous paragraph.
The core issue, in my opinion, is that Zotero has compatibility problems with Markdown syntax. I hope future Zotero updates can achieve full and proper Markdown compatibility, or perhaps completely replace Zotero's current syntax with Markdown. This approach would likely be more beneficial for Zotero's long-term development.
  • From a user experience perspective, Zotero's note editor is not a pure Markdown editor but rather a specialized note-taking tool that only supports partial Markdown syntax. Therefore, I hope the official team can fully implement Markdown compatibility—or even replace Zotero's underlying logic with Markdown syntax entirely. This would provide better compatibility and greater flexibility when taking notes in Zotero.
  • Hitting the space bar after closing the equation with $ is enough for me to render the equation and continue typing.
  • Apart from the fact that there are good reasons Zotero wants its note editor to do more than markdown -- so do you! LaTeX formula support has nothing to do with markdown. It's an added feature of the editor, not available in standard md editors
