Moving cited text from one document to another

If I copy and paste text with a citation from LibreOffice Writer document (A) to another that already contains text with citations (B), refreshing Zotero in B doesn't recognize the new citation. Is there a way to overcome this?

Just tested and works for me.
The 2nd file is in a format that supports Zotero citations?

Also, I think you have to set a citation style via document preferences in the target document.
