How to remove one item from each duplicate?

Hi there,
I wanted to remove duplicated items, so I selected them and deleted, thinking it is going to solve the problem. Then I found that both duplicates were put to trash. That's not what I would expect. Can you tell me how to do it right?

The proper way to resolve duplicates is to merge them, not delete.
