unable to install zotero connector on ungoogled chromium

Hello, I normally use Firefox but in some situations I am forced to use a Chromium-based browser. I prefer to use Ungoogled Chromium since it strips away all calls to Google servers that even "vanilla" Chromium keeps.
However, Zotero connector cannot be installed on ungoogled chromium. The extension page at
https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/zotero-connector/ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc has a red error box telling me "Elemento al momento non disponibile. Consulta la guida alla risoluzione dei problemi." (This item is not available at the moment. Check the troubleshooting guide)
I have no problems installing Zotero connector on Chromium, on the same machine. Both browsers are at the same version - so I understand that it's just Google working against "unofficial" browsers.

Ungoogled Chromium: Versione 142.0.7444.175 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (a 64 bit)
Chromium: Versione 142.0.7444.175 (Build ufficiale) Fedora Project (a 64 bit)

Is there a way to workaround this issue, apart from building the extension from source?
Thank you!

  • fwiw the connector works just fine from my local build
  • Update: since the local build of the extension can only be loaded in "developer mode", it must be reloaded at each restart of the browser. Definitely impractical!
  • My understanding is that ungoogled chromium does this intentionally, blocking chrome web store extensions, and you need to install a separate extension to re-enable that (or jump through some other hoops to install extension files directly, but that may just be the developer mode you're already doing).
  • Thank you! I followed the instructions here https://www.ungoogledextensions.com/ and I was able to install Zotero connector.
