ScienceDirect fails to import PDF

I cannot import PDF files from ScienceDirect anymore.

Tested on:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2950360425000117

Zotero Connector 5.0.190: Debug ID D1942013906
Chrome Version 142.0.7444.176 (Build officiel) (64 bits)
Zotero 8.0-beta.17+0748b0975 (64-bit): Debug ID D631568462

I get a Zotero window trying to open a link, with the old Zotero icon:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/zotero.org/images/forums/u265723/hvrrlwv1dmh7ydihpnfl.png

In Firefox:
Zotero Connector 5.0.189beta2: Debug ID D858050001
Firefox 146.0 (64-bit)
Zotero 8.0-beta.17+0748b0975 (64-bit): Debug ID D1838942615

With Firefox, it tries opening the window in Firefox instead.

Windows 11

I get the exact same issue with Firefox and Edge today. Edge has the same behavior as Chrome.

    Also Windows 11.

I can still download or read the PDF by clicking on "View PDF".
  • Yes, the import is working from the "View PDF" page in Firefox and Chrome also for me.
  • The fact that we cannot download the PDF from the web version of the article is still an issue. E.g., we do not get all the predefined markers from ScienceDirect nor the publication date (we only get the month from the PDF).
For the moment, to get them, I "Save to Zotero" once from the webpage, and a second time from the PDF, then I merge both in Zotero's main window.
  • @arasoldier, @mjthoraval: Pushed a fix. Thanks for reporting. Your Zotero Connector should auto-update within a few minutes, or you can update translators manually from the Advanced pane of the Zotero settings.
  • It is working nicely now.
    Thank you.

@AbeJellinek, it worked after the fix, but it seems to be broken again today on my side.
The blank pop-up opens after a longer time and closes after maybe one minute. After that, "ScienceDirect Full Text PDF" becomes red, indicating a failure.
  • @arasoldier: It is still working for me.
They will probably need more details about your problem, as I did in my first post above.

Ok, so it does work for Open Access articles, but not through my university proxy.

    I get these errors.

    Maybe it will work later.
  • This is a separate issue.
Using a proxy breaks the download of PDF files for ScienceDirect.
