APA 7 Style and Word In-Text Citations

Hi everyone,
I am looking for advice on adjusting APA 7 in Zotero so that I can use both narrative and parenthetical in-text citations within the same Word document.

I am writing my PhD thesis, so I need the citations to remain fully linked to my Zotero library across several years of work. At present, Zotero only inserts parenthetical citations by default. When I try to change a single citation to narrative form, Zotero attempts to modify the entire document. I would prefer not to unlink citations due to the long-term nature of the thesis.

These are the two formats I need to use:

Parenthetical:
(Modestino et al., 2019)

Narrative:
Modestino et al. (2019) argue that…

Is there a way to adjust or extend the APA 7 CSL file so that I can select narrative or parenthetical format on a citation-by-citation basis without affecting the rest of the document? Alternatively, is there any workaround in Word or Zotero that allows this behaviour while keeping citations fully linked?

Any guidance or examples would be very welcome.
