Problems with Chinese as default language

A student of mine uses Mandarin as the default language for his computer work (including Zotero). When he collects sources (i.e., English language sources) for his Zotero library from, say, a database, and then produces a bibliography from his library, Zotero inserts Chinese characters into the references. Worse, it mangles or truncates footnotes produced from that same list in his library. No doubt, others have encountered these issues. Is there a workaround?

Zotero generates bibliographies in the language selected when choosing the citation style. It just defaults to the system/interface language if you haven't chosen another language.
