Zotero extension not installing on Chrome or Edge

Hi,
I cannot install the Zotero browser plugin on either Chrome or Edge (I had it set up in both before, but Edge reset to auto-install some pointless AI update and deleted everything from my profile). In both browsers, I get the message "Manifest is not valid JSON. Can't read file."

Is there a workaround, or a known alternate plugin that works with Zotero?

Where exactly are you seeing that? Can you provide a screenshot?

The Chrome and Edge extensions are distributed from Google's and Microsoft's official extension sites and are valid by definition, so if you're actually trying to install these from there, this is some problem on your computer.

I'm afraid you'll need to debug this on your end. This isn't a problem with the Zotero Connector.

If this is a work computer, your institution may be blocking extension installs, or security software might be interfering.
