Upgrade StorageNote embedded image export via API-received HTML

I need to export Zotero notes with images in bulk mode, using API v3, extracting the note HTML.
I can't figure out how to share images embedded in a note (see HTML below) without sharing my API key in the HTML (to link directly). I would need to download all images in advance (in the backend), host them on my server, and link them in the img element in the HTML.
I want to make sure this is the only way.
