256 Character limit sync issue?

Hi,

My zotero files are not uploading to the server and so are not syncing from my desktop to my laptop properly (it says it cannot find the file on my laptop). It is not a storage issue (I have just bought more storage).

I suspect the issue is the error it throws up in the top right that tags are 'too long' and exceed the 256 character limit. This seems absurd. It gives me the option to split, edit or delete but the automatic split at a semicolon does not even function correctly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

Length limits are an entirely standard aspect of software, particularly for online services. I'm not sure why you think it's absurd? Zotero lets you save data locally, where limits can be more liberal, and then correct the data in order to sync it. This doesn't have anything to do with Zotero Storage.

If you have many such tags, some data you exported from somewhere was invalid, and you should tell us exactly where the data is from. If you got these saving from a website using the Zotero Connector, we may be able to correct it automatically. For something like a RIS file that you imported, you may need to do a find/replace to correct the formatting of the file.

What do you mean when you say splitting at a semicolon doesn't work correctly?
