Zotero 8 beta does not display external PDF annotations that Zotero 7 and Zotero for iOS display

edited 4 days ago
The built-in PDF reader of Zotero 8 (Zotero 8.0-beta.10+5a96e7c90, Linux, 64-bit) fails to display, in the PDF, annotations made with external programs that Zotero 7 or Zotero for iOS display.

The following screen captures of what each Zotero displays show the problem:

- Zotero 7.0.24 (Linux, 64-bit):

- Zotero for iOS (2.0.0, Build 397) :

- Zotero 8 (8.0-beta.10+5a96e7c90, Linux, 64-bit, all plugins disabled, started in Troubleshooting mode):

The two annotations starting from the top are missing: "Okular Typewritter" and "Okular Inline Note". (Firefox, Edge, Okular, and Evince ---all under Linux--- all show these annotations too).

To be explicit: I understand that many of the annotations in this PDF cannot, by design, be imported by Zotero (Zotero 7 only allows my importing the highlight and the underline, but not the strikethrough, the squiggly underline, the two free hand writings, and the two "texts/typewritter"); what I am reporting is the *failure to display them* (I think all should be displayed).

I have emailed the PDF to support@zotero.org, mentioning this thread.
