Series/book title info from Crossr. book chp DOIs not imported correctly depening on DOI "book type"
I believe there is an error in how Zotero handles import from Crossref DOIs that include 'three levels', but only with some book types.
By 'three levels' I mean that the DOI in question corresponds to a book chapter (lowest level), which naturally belongs to a book (middle level) and that book belongs to a book series or similar (highest level).
If I import such a book chapter DOI using the "Add Items by Identifier" function in Zotero, one of the following things happens:
- if the book type in the DOI is "other": The 'Book Title' field will be the title of the book (middle level). The 'Extra' field will include two things, "Series Title: xyz" (highest level) and "DOI: 10.10..."
- if the book type in the DOI is "edited book": The 'Book Title' field will be the title of the series (highest level). The 'Extra' field will only include the "DOI: 10.10...". The actual title of the book will not be included in the data fields at all.
I think it is fair to say that the second version can't be the intended way with including three-level items in Zotero and I would love it if this could be fixed to work the same way that "other" book type DOIs do.
Please note that I have no idea what any other book types that may also have 'three levels' react like in Zotero and haven't had a chance to check for a similar issue in handling, for example, DataCite DOIs.
(Additionally I think the Series Title should land in the "Series" field instead of "Extra", but I found a forum post that already addresses this: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/113390/)
Steps to reproduce:
1. Import a book chapter DOI where the "book type" in the DOI data is "edited book".
Example DOI: 10.1016/S0074-6142(01)80146-7
(See DOI data: https://doi.crossref.org/servlet/query?pid=a@b.c&id=10.1016/S0074-6142(01)80146-7&format=info)
2. Import a book chapter DOI where the "book type" in the DOI data is "other".
Example DOI: 10.1007/978-3-031-52359-5_3
(See DOI data: https://doi.crossref.org/servlet/query?pid=a@b.c&id=10.1007/978-3-030-27322-4_2&format=info)
3. Note the differences in how Zotero lists and cites the series and book titles of both chapters.
For the record I'm on Windows 11 and using Zotero version 7.0.24
PS: I'm very sure that the 'culprit' is the book type field in the Crossref DOI data because I had the opportunity to test it out (we run an OMP installation with several presses and I registered an edited book as type "other", while another edited book of the same press (meaning very similar DOI metadata) is registered as book type "edited book").
