Adding book Editor for MHRA 4th ed. citation format

Hi all - I know the question has been asked before about adding the editors of a book, but I wonder if anyone has worked out how to do it for MHRA 4th Edition style guide? The previous answers I've found all suggest adding the Editors of a book as extra authors but that generates a citation format that is 'wrong' for MHRA 4th ed. eg if you have a chapter written by John Smith within a book edited by Jane Doe and John Doe, adding the editors as authors will give you:

John Smith, Jane Doe, and John Doe, ‘Chapter Title’, in Book Title (Publisher, Date), pp. 65–77 (p. 21).

But the correct format for MHRA should be:

John Smith, ‘Chapter Title’, in Book Title, ed. by Jane Doe and John Doe (Publisher, Date), pp. 65–77 (p. 21).

Thanks so much!

No, you misunderstood the previous posts:
you add the editors as new authors and then change them into editors -- this is how this should look (the order doesn't matter for different categories of creators):

    That gives you
Miguel Cervantes, Don Quixote, ed. and trans. by E. C. Riley, 2nd edn (Allen & Unwin, 1986).

(that's for books with authors and editors, but the idea is the same for book chapters in edited volumes)
  • Ah brilliant thank you. It's the changing the extra author fields to Editor was the missing bit - sorted now!
