Zotero for Safari not connecting

No matter what I try, the Zotero connector in Safari will not connect to my Google Docs, despite showing up in the Docs toolbar/extensions pane, but I cannot add a citation or click on the options on the Safari toolbar. How do I fix this?

What do you mean by "will not connect"?

Are you able to save to Zotero with the toolbar button?

No, I see the zotero icon in the safari toolbar and in my google docs toolbar but when i click them nothing happens
