Notes

I am trying to expand my use of Zotero from just a reference library and bibliography tool and am wondering if there are tools to better use notes instead of having to go back to individual references to find the notes. Is there a way to search notes and link back to the references? That is, I want to be able to look at my notes as I write and then see what paper the relevant information came from?
  • There are several method can be used that I tried:

    1. Using Zotero's own Related function.
You can use Zotero's Related tab at the bottom to link Items and Notes, which is the safest since they most likely will work for as long as the program exists.

    2. Using Better Notes for Zotero extension. https://github.com/windingwind/zotero-better-notes
This method involves using the said extension's ability to backlink, although it is in the extension's own format (zotero://note/u/ABC123) and this may lead to inoperability in the long run, this is the most straighforward and flexible solution.

    3. Using Actions and Tags for Zotero extension. https://github.com/windingwind/zotero-actions-tags
There is a more manuel and menial way if you would like to circumvent the Better Notes's propriety links. You can use this extension to create an action which copies the normal Zotero link (zotero://ABC123) for the item or note you choose to your clipboard. You can paste to your notes and voila! • A system I’ve found to work well for me is to make a collection/folder for a project and add a standalone note to it. I use this note as a table of contents and outline for my thinking. I add items to the collection as I read them and add links to the outline note
