GoogleDocs citations throws JavaScript Error: "Error: Ranges corrupt..." [Report ID: 1926681783]

edited 21 days ago
When trying to add/edit a citation, I just get a JavaScript Error: "Error: Ranges corrupt [citation-related stuff] ...".

Can't provide information on how to reproduce; it happened suddenly and persists on multiple machines. Tried restart system and programs, delete cookies, log-off, all to no avail.
Thanks for any help!

Using: Zotero 7.0.24 (64-bit); Zotero Connector 5.0.181; Brave 1.82.166 (Official Build) (64-bit), Chromium: 140.0.7339.133; Linux 6.12.10-1.el9.elrepo.x86_64 x86_64 and Ubuntu 6.14.0-29-generic GNU/Linux

UPDATE: Interestingly, I've just noticed that only the one document was affected. In new/other documents citations work fine. Copy-pasting it over as plain text and re-adding citations, did the trick—tedious though. Cheers!
  • @adomasven already tried these steps, entire document is broken, i.e. all citations are affected.
  • UPDATE: I think this happens when working with two Google Docs when transferring citations. Therefore to reproduce the issue, (i) create two docs using some citations; then (ii) in doc 1 copy one sentence that includes a cite (CTRL + C) and paste it into doc 2 (CTRL + V). Now doc 2 should break.
  • Are you working in a document with multiple tabs? Can you reproduce this in a document with a single tab, or when pasting into the first tab?
  • Just a single tab, thanks. Maybe important: I used bulleted lists in both docs, i.e., copy item from list in doc1 to list in doc2. However, I've just tried it with two mock documents and could not reproduce the issue. But in the original doc it happened again after I had newly created it (paste as plain text and re-adding citations as described in OP). I'm not sure what else I could report about the issue, sorry.
  • See the final step of Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents. Share a copy of a doc with support@zotero.org and steps to reproduce the issue. It's best if you can recreate a doc that reproduces the issue from scratch, or at least cut the original document down to just the offending part.
  • I've just shared the Google Doc with support@zotero.org
    Cheers!
  • The document you shared only includes an unlinked citation. If you press Zotero -> Refresh in the document, and the citations you are trying to copy are unlinked, then copying them will also result in unlinked citations.
