Moving entry to a subcollection and removing it from original collection?

I was used to drag entries from a collection to its subcollection and thereafter deleting it from the original collection with the entries remaining in the subcollection.
Now I tried again and when "Removing item from collection" I get the message that this deletes the entry also from the subcollection. How can I only remove it from the parent collection, but not the subcollection?

It only does that if you have View → Show Items from Subcollections on, because the alternative would be extremely confusing — you'd remove the item from that collection and it wouldn't disappear from the list.

Also, when moving - not copying - items between collections, you should drag with the appropriate modifier key as a single operation ...
