How to make Zotero automatically detect citation language for English and Arabic papers?

Hello everyone,

I’m working on research papers in both English and Arabic, and I use Zotero to manage my references. The problem is that the citation syntax differs between the two languages, but Zotero doesn’t seem to automatically detect the paper’s language when inserting citations.

For example:

In English, I need “and” between authors, with English punctuation.

In Arabic, I need “و” between authors, with Arabic punctuation like “،” instead of “,”.

I would like Zotero to automatically choose the correct citation formatting based on the language of each reference, without switching styles manually every time.

My questions are:

Is there any built-in Zotero feature to auto-detect the paper’s language and adjust the citation style accordingly?

If not, is there a workaround — for example, using CSL customization or language tags?

Any advice, tips, or example workflows would be really appreciated!

Thank you.
