Citations do not update the bibliography

While working on a Word document, the bibliography was automatically updated when a citation was entered and then this function no longer worked. MS support was unable to identify and solve the problem, so they advised to contact Zotero. Both MS and Zotero have been updated.

You may have accidentally flattened the bibliography (and possibly some previous citations):
