Collapse/combine groups
I am working on a project that has several sections so we made several groups. Now we think we might be best served with one library. How can I collapse the groups into one library? Join the individual groups into one group?
-
dstillmanYou would have to drag the collections and items to one of the groups from all the others, invite everyone to that group, and delete the other groups.

adamsmith(but note this will break connections to items cited with the word processor add-on, if you have already done that)

brown2mrWhat do I do to restore the connections? Im not exactly sure what you mean by break connections.

dstillmanedited August 25, 2025A future version will make it possible to relink citations to items in a different library, but for the time being, those citations would just be stored in the document, and while you could insert other instances of them from the Cited section of the citation dialog, you wouldn't be able to edit their metadata.
-
brown2mrOk so if I drag the contents of my group's library into another group and try to create an annotated bib it won't take the stuff I dragged?
-
dstillmanWe're just talking about the links between existing citations in documents creating using the word processor plugins and the items in the library. You can continue to use the citations in the document, and add more instances of them, but they won't be linked to the items in the new library.

adamsmithSo, for an example what wouldn't work: you inserted a citation from the original group into a Word document of an article ahead of print. You then drag the items to the group. Now you want to update the article with issue/volume/page information: if you update the item in the new group, the citation in the Word doc doesn't update.

brown2mrOk so they basically have to be exactly the way I want them before I drag them? My aim is to create an annotated bibliography so basically I would have to put in my annotations before I drag them to the new group?

adamsmithOnly if you have already cited them using the word processor add-on. If you haven't, and are just _planning_ on doing so, none of this applies.
