Avoiding publisher tags in Zotero

Hello, EBSCO interface has changed its direct export capability with Zotero and creates external files that bring in the publisher tags on import. I have seen a plugin that might look as though it deals with this issue https://github.com/MuiseDestiny/zotero-tag. Would you know of this or any other plugin/ workaround to help?
Thanks in advance.
  • Use the Zotero Connector to add items from EBSCO in your browser. Zotero has lots of built-in cleanup logic for metadata from publishers/databases like EBSCO, but you can only take advantage of it if you add items using the Connector's Save to Zotero button.

If you're still seeing issues with extraneous tags when you use the Connector, please give us a specific example.
  • Hi there - I have to import 100's of items from EBSCO for our lit searches so 1 by 1 via the connector isnt viable unfortunately - unless there is a way to bring in many items in one go via the connector? EBSCO used to link directly with Zotero in its export process (which I'm assuming is similar to the connector) but their upgrade of interface has changed that - I am also in contact with EBSCO IT team over this. Any feedback on the plugin I mentioned?
  • Quick update - I've just looked up on the web how to import the max display of 50 items from an EBSCO search results page in one go via the connector - I'd not considered it was possible for more than 1 item before. So that's definitely an improvement for now. Do still let me know if you have any other ideas for import over 50 items or if you think the plugin might work.

Yes, you can import multiple items from search pages when the Zotero Connector's toolbar button shows a folder icon.

I don't know much about the Actions and Tags plugin (though you'd definitely want to use @hsiangyu_wong 's official https://github.com/windingwind/zotero-actions-tags, not that very old version). If you're seeing a specific issue with EBSCO tags, can you give a little more information about what's happening when you save the items, and what you'd like to happen instead?
  • In the new EBSCO interface I’ve been advised to use their ‘Cite’ tool for Zotero export out but can only get the platform to engage directly with Zotero connector if I choose 1 item only to export, where the 'Export to RIS' option sits at the bottom of the list. When I select the max 50 records (or any number above 1), the 'Export to RIS' option sits at the top of the list and it goes back to creating a RIS file in my downloads (which brings with it all the publisher tags) – see the clips added.

I have asked the EBSCO IT team to look at this but no joy yet.

  • Also re importing via the connector in the browser, I can see how that works in the search results page but is there any way to save via the browser on my saved items page in EBSCO? (the items I've selected from the search results - only the web page icon appears in the browser rather then the folder icon
