error ID: 1590148043

I received the error "Could not load translators and styles" at start up. I have followed the three steps suggested in the troubleshooting: resetting translators and styles, checking database integrity; deleting translators and styles in the data directory and restarted; no problems with file permissions.
Nothing helped the errors still occurred. I have now completely deinstalled zotero and reinstalled it - yet, the problem remains.
Do you have any ideas how to fix this?
Best, inken
  • Could not remove the file at C:\Users\[...]\AppData\Local\Temp\Zotero\ABC News Australia.js
There is some kind of problem with file permissions. Are you running any nonstandard security software on this machine? Any enterprise restrictions?

You could try closing Zotero, deleting AppData\Local\Temp\Zotero, and opening it again. (Open File Explorer, double-click on the path field at the top, paste in "%LocalAppData%\Temp", and find and delete the directory called "Zotero".)
  • Hi,
thanks for the troubleshooting. It seems to have worked; the machine is part of a university setting with a partitioned and administered installation complex... but I have administering rights for my machine and checked the permission settings for the specific folders. But still of course there might be some hidden institutional restrictions I cannot see...

But: still the problem remains, that citations cannot be created - there is always the same error notification (see picture). I thought that was because of the translators loading problems, but obviously not... the error occurs before I can choose a specific citation style and occurs regardless wheter it is for footnotes or bibliography or the format...
    Any ideas?
Thanks for your help and enjoy your day!

Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through reproducing this, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?
  • I did. The ID is D3007471

Your Zotero data directory (and your home folder, from the looks of it) is on a network share, and file reads appear to just be extremely slow — it's taking 38 seconds for Zotero to load translators, and styles load another 10 or so seconds after that. You're also getting some other weird errors.

If you're able to move the data directory to the local disk, you should do so. Beyond that, I'm afraid you'd have to talk to your IT department and see if they can get this network share to behave more like a standard disk.

(You can also try the Zotero 8 beta, which is based on an updated underlying framework, to see if that behaves any differently, but there's not really anything else we can do to debug problems with specific network shares.)
  • Thanks a lot for your thoughts and diagnose. I have already feared that it might be this network share construction - which is indeed rather slow... First, I will try to move the data directory and see if that improves.
I will inform the it department anyway, other zotero users most probably will share the same problems.
    Kind regards!
