Search box in the app should be diacritic-agnostic

Subject says it all :-)

Example: when I search for "Zelechowski", Zotero finds nothing, because the author's name is "Żelechowski".
Naturally, when I search for "elechowski", Zotero does find it.

So, as the subject says, I think, it is important that the search box finds all occurrences of the search words, regardless of any diacritics in either the search words or the fields of the database entries. (I.e., strip all diacritics before doing a comparison.)

This is how all other search boxes in other apps/search engines work.
  • This is planned but technically difficult.
  • Thanks, good to know.

It seems like it's not coming any time soon, since it has been "planned" for over 5 years :-)

  • The database improvement that will allow us to implement this wasn't available for those past five years, but it will be in Zotero 8. We aren't able to provide estimates of when features will be available, but sometimes we just have to wait for something in the platform to change, and the time up until that happens doesn't say much about how long it will take to implement the feature once it does.
