PDFs not showing up online

Hi,

My local Zotero setup is working fine, but the online database doesn't show PDFs for most of the files. Searching the forums here, I followed the steps from this discussion: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/files_not_syncing. I made it to step 5, but the Reset File Sync History didn't solve it.

The debug ID is: D1587479994

Note: I checked just now and my local Zotero storage, including stored PDFs and metadata, is suspiciously equal to what I am allocated for my plan. So maybe the issue is that I reached my storage limit, but then I would be surprised that I didn't receive an email about this.
  • For Zotero Storage, include the URL from the web library where you're not able to access the file.

But that's not necessary. It's just this:
Zotero syncs stored files; linked files need to be synced outside of Zotero. Linked files are indicated by a chain in the attachment icon. You can use Tools → Manage Attachments → Convert Linked Files to Stored Files to make the files syncable.
Nearly all your files are linked files.

(These files are also all in ~/Zotero, which is your data directory. They absolutely shouldn't be there.)
  • Hi dstillman,

Thanks, converting from linked files to stored files solved it!

Where should I be storing the files?
  • If you converted all your files to stored files, the files are stored by Zotero deeper within the data directory and it's no longer relevant.

But in the case of linked files…anywhere but Zotero's managed data directory.
